About the Item
An exceptional quality mid-century Italian wooden games box attributed to Cambissa
Co. The box is constructed from two different colored woods assembled in three sections. The body of the box made in a slightly darker wood comprises of five compartments each containing gaming counters of various shape, size and color. Each has a cut out edge so that the counters are visible when the box is closed. Two further central recesses are lined in brown velvet and contain two packs of unopened playing cards both marked CAMBISSA
CO TRIESTE. The box has a hinged cover attached by a full length brass hinge and it has brown velvet applied to the base and is marked MADE IN ITALY.
Provenance: acquired in the British art market.
In good condition with minor and light age wear and as the playing cards are opened probably never used.
