Royal House Antiques Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this brand new in the box Sterling 1314 made The Battle of Bannockburn Pewter Chess set and pieces with all the original documentation in a limited edition collection 40/500 RRP £15,000 I also have the matching "Robert Burns" chess set which retails for a cool £13,500 The Battle of Bannockburn was a brief moment in time that changed the history of Scotland. An epic tale no better told than in the trilogy “The Bruce” by Scottish Historical Novelist Nigel Tranter, a book and volume of heritage which inspired the creation of this (so far) modestly historic Chess set. While Nigel Tranter is not longer with us, his legacy lingers wherever these magnificent pieces are ghosted across this equally magnificent chess board. Wherever you are in the World, and whether you are fiercely Scottish or merely intrigued, this piece of history in the making is for you and your family to own and to cherish for generations to come. Brass chess board and chess game made with the ancient casting technique. After casting, the finish was chiseled and subsequently silvered and finished with 24-carat gold plating. The figures are in Florentine medieval style then painted with antioxidant treatment using a special transparent lacquer. Large Antique Staunton Style Chess Figures. A large Staunton style chess set with Ebonised and Boxwood weighted chess pieces. The pieces with wide bases for added stability, underside of each chess piece being covered with felt allowing the pieces to slide more easily across the chess board. The chess set comprises of thirty-two pieces, four Knights featuring the head and neck of a horse. Two kings, being the tallest pieces at 11½ cm high, both with a crown topped with a cross whilst the two Queens feature a coronet topped with a tiny ball (10 cm high). The four Rooks are towers (castles) with a crenelation top and the four Bishops with mitres. The sixteen Pawns are the smallest pieces at 5½ cm high and are topped by a plain ball.
