Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this absolutely exquisite, silk Royal Opera Programme to Commemorate the 60th Anniversary of Queen Victorias ascension to the throne in her Diamond Jubilee
A very good looking and highly decorative piece, you have an antique and rare original silk programme for a State Performance at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, 23rd June 1897, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Queen Victoria's accession to the throne.
The programme features performances from Tannhauser, Romeo et Juliette and Les Huguenots, the cast including Nellie Melba, Jean de Reszke, Edouard de Reszke and Emma Eames. The silk programme is printed with a decorative border and various oval portraits by Downey of Queen Victoria and other members of the British Royal family who attended the event, with a border of gold wire tassels
The frame is a wonderful Anglo-Indian hand carved rosewood example, it dates to the export period so 1880-1910 and is period perfect
The condition is good for the period, there will be some fading and discolouration over the years, it is silk after all
