This is an antique regimental gong. A German, brass ordnance shell upon an oak base, dating to the First World War, engraved 1916. Fascinating repurposed ordnance, in the manner of Trench Art Displays a desirable aged patina, the shell casing bearing signs of action Quality oak frame presents fine grain interest and medullary rays Shell casing with a time worn appearance, lightly weathered throughout Suspended beneath the frame, the gong strikes with a prominent sustain Engraved to the top Patronenfabrik, Karlsruhe - Oktober 1916 Replete with a quality spherical cork striker upon a beech handle Pleasingly substantial at 10.5 kg (23 lb), the shell alone weighing 5.81kg (12.8 lb) This is a fascinating antique regimental gong, with a delightful presentation and use of genuine WWI ordnance.
