About the Item
Bronze Commemorative Medal dedicated to Dante Alighieri by Provincia di Ravenna, and realized by Aurelio Mistruzzi in 1921.
Obverse (front): Shows a right-facing portrait of Dante wearing a laurel wreath, a symbol of poetic achievement. Around the edge is the inscription:
"RAVENNA A DANTE - MCCCXXI - MCMXXI", meaning "Ravenna to Dante - 1321 - 1921".
This commemorates the 600th anniversary of Dante’s death in Ravenna.
Reverse (back): Depicts a seated female figure in a classical style, pouring oil into a lamp placed on an altar, symbolizing remembrance and eternal light. The inscription around reads:
"E PAREVA QUANTO IL MONDO LONTANO" — a quote from Dante’s Divine Comedy (Purgatorio, Canto VIII), meaning "And it seemed as far away as the world", evoking distant memory and reverence.

Aurelio Mistruzzi
Aurelio Mistruzzi, an Italian sculptor and medalist. He is well known for having made numerous monuments to the Fallen for many Friulian towns, but also for some works of sacred statuary for the Basilica del Santo in Padua and some churches in Rome. From the early of the 20th century, he frequently devoted himself to medalist and coinage, signing the coins of Pius XI and part of those of Pius XII.
