About the Item

A striking sterling-on-bronze presentation trophy, awarded as The Duane Cup in 1914 by the historic Annisquam Yacht Club (est. 1898, Gloucester, Massachusetts). This two-handled loving cup form features finely executed Art Nouveau inspired detailing along the rim and a central medallion depicting the Annisquam Harbor with lighthouse and clubhouse. The underside is stamped N.G. Wood Son, 6545, along with the company’s diamond-shaped maker’s mark and the designation “Sterling on Bronze, Pat. Aug. 27, 1912”. N.G. Wood Son were prominent Boston metalworkers, specializing in high-quality bronze and sterling silver overlay presentation pieces during the early 20th century. This cup is an evocative example of early American yachting history, commemorating a race held on the eve of World War I. Its form and patina combine refined design with a strong sense of maritime heritage. Condition: Very good antique condition with expected surface wear and a deep, original patina consistent with age. Inscription and medallion detail remain sharp and legible. Style: American Arts Crafts / Early 20th Century Nautical Presentation Provenance: Commissioned by the Annisquam Yacht Club, Massachusetts, 1914
