About the Item
An 1870 leather bound, hard cover edition of Godey’s Lady’s Book, Volume LXXX published by Louis Antoine Godey.
Godey’s Lady’s Book was a 19th-century American magazine known for its collection of poetry, illustrations, and articles by prominent female authors and artists. It addressed fashion trends, including directions on how to make dresses and other garments, providing an excellent view into the styles and fashion of the mid to late 19th-century.
The book contains full-page engravings throughout, some separated by onion skin papers. The book also contains musical entertainment for the family, household suggestions, short stories, and poetry. The illustrations are reprinted from original etchings.
Penciled notations are seen to the inside of the front and back covers, providing insight into how the original owner of this book used it to smoothly run her household.
An incredible peak into the 19th Century daily life of women – wives and mothers.
