About the Item
Rare small iron safe from the mid-19th century, made entirely of thick sheet iron with a front decorated in a wood-grain laminate, probably printed or paper-based. The piece combines the look of fine furniture with the security of an early strongbox and was likely used as a domestic or office safe for documents and valuables. Behind the hinged front door with working lock and original key are three drawers with brass knobs, one of which is slightly loose but functional. The lock mechanism is complete and in working order, the construction extremely solid with an impressive weight of around 35 kg. The outer surfaces show an authentic patina with traces of age and oxidation that underline its industrial charm. A fascinating and very decorative object from the Biedermeier or early industrial period, unrestored and in fully functional condition.
