About the Item

In this ad you can find a beautiful historical artifact. The object for sale is an aluminum cast board ashtray used on Austrian trains in the 50s. It as manufactured for the staatliche Österreichische Bundesbahnen (Austrian Federal Railways) after a design by Joseph Hoffman and Oswald Haerdtl. It is a perfect example of the typical form-follows-function-style of the 50s. The order by the Austrian State to design the interieur of the federal trains was the last Josef Hoffmann executed. The trains run off factory in the year 1956, the year he died. The object is in excellent condition and has neither been altered nor restored. Measurements: Depth: 6.5cm Width: 13cm Height: 8cm.
