Antique French Chocolate Mold by Matfer Paris, circa 1890–1900
A beautiful antique French chocolate mold crafted in metal, featuring a rich, naturally developed patina. Manufactured by Matfer Paris, this piece reflects the enduring French tradition of chocolate making and confectionery, particularly associated with seasonal and holiday figures.
The period between 1890 and 1920 is widely regarded as the golden age of chocolate production and consumption across Europe. During this time, chocolatiers competed with elaborate shop windows filled with finely molded chocolate figures, made possible by the mastery of metal mold production. While the most renowned manufacturer of such molds was the Anton Reiche factory in Dresden, many European makers produced exceptional examples of comparable quality and artistry.
This mold represents that celebrated tradition of molded chocolate craftsmanship and stands as both a functional object and a decorative historical artifact. A highly desirable collector’s piece, suitable for display or continued use.
