Silver Medal Document of World Exhibition in Milan 1906 in Arts and Crafts Frame

About the Item

Rare and important, museum worthy document in a custom made Arts and Crafts frame. What we are offering here are actually two unique antiques into one. In the year 1906 the world exhibition (or world expo) was held in Milan, Italy and over there it was called ' Esposizione Internazionale Di Milano 1906 '. For an artist or business to be awarded a medal at the most prestigious event in the world (where only the best of the best would exhibit), was a big deal. We had never in our careers seen one of these important and intricate medal-documents. Incorporated in this silver medal award for 'decorative arts' are the two posters (in miniature) that were created to announce this 1906 world expo (image 5&6). In the middle is an image of the king of Italy at that time, Victor Emanuel III and there are many more stunning decorations that make this important medal-document a work of art by itself. This silver medal was awarded to Dutch sculptor S.A. Bergsma from the Northern province of Friesland. Since he was a prolific carver, we are certain that the hand carved Arts Crafts frame, in which this award was kept since 1906, was of his own hand. Also, because this frame is carved in the style of the province where he was from. The back comes with the original, solid wooden panels and in front of the award is the original and mint condition antique glass panel. This piece actually is one of the unique antiques that we purchased from a museum in Friesland last month. We will be offering more great finds from that museum in the following week(s), including some more hand carved pieces by the winner of the silver medal that is presented in this Dutch Arts Crafts frame.
