Large pictorial map of North America, circa 1935 by Palmer and Associates, Los Angeles, circa 1935. The most beautiful pictorial map we have ever seen. All original lithograph mounted on linen and attached to wooden dowels at both ends so it can be scrolled up or down. Attached to the rear of the top wooden dowel are two canvas loops so it can be hung. The scrolled map has a short cover (some damage) that rolls over and secures the map for transportation. The map itself shows the pictorial history of North America in the 1930s. Starting in the Pacific Northwest we find whalers out at sea while on land Eskimos catch seals, Haida villages are present are as logging concerns, grizzly bears and Native American villages. Coming south we see cattle ranches of the Great Plains, bison and buffalo roam as do elk and moose. California has redwoods, oil rigs, people frolicking on the coast, while cruise ships, helicopters and airplanes to and fro. Inland the desert is pictorialized with cactus and iron horses. Mexico is portrayed with regional dress and local industry. Back up north the Mid-West shows the great lakes and its animals. The wheat belt has corn fields, harvesters and giant storage sheds. Going down to Texas and the gulf we see oil rigs, rattlesnakes, we see the Mississippi with cotton pickers and paddle boats. The north east shows Eskimo, igloos, wolves, whales and fishing boats,the eastern seaboard shows log cabins, geese owls and otter. New York shows its majestic buildings while steamships to and fro. The South East is a hive of industry showing D.C. and the Virginias with apple orchards and tobacco. Florida has a Bangor player, high-rises in Miami with the imposing alligator lurking. Finally the Caribbean has it right with a Cuban under an umbrella with a drink and Haitians dancing under a palm. Fish jump, people dance and bananas hang from a tree. Ah, what a wonderful world! Never seen another and probably never will. Darkening with age, few wrinkles and water marks at edge, overall amazing condition given age.
