About the Item

Map of Africa from the geography classroom, 1916 edition. Printed in Edinburgh, Scotland. Mounted on pulldown wooden roller with wall mounting brackets. Printed during the bloody height of World War 1, it is fascinating to observe how the Dark Continent was divided up among colonial powers. Those powers that plundered Africa for its depth of natural resources, were now fighting against each other to maintain dominance in Europe and control of their colonies. A continuous state of war and hostilities that still resonates among the African population more than a century after this map was printed. The colors are rich, vivid and as compelling to behold as the African continent itself. The Dark Continent illuminated in illustrative beauty and territorial detail. As for condition, please note in the photos the foxing and light staining on the lower section of the map above and along the pulldown bar. To our eye, it further authenticates the archival quality of the map, more than a century old. Free delivery.
