About the Item

A finely rendered octagonal sided wooden model of a Renaissance Baptistry or Church of very good proportions scale, showing distinctive Islamic influences as observed in the eight Mehrab shaped arches of the octagonal rotunda, one being a hinged door. Many Italian architects from the Renaissance Period, including Florentine architect Filippo Brunelleschi (1377-1446) who designed the Duomo, were greatly influenced by Islamic sources, such as the Mausoleum of Oljeitu. Ref: ‘Islamic Influences in Florence’.
