About the Item
A rare antique ASTRA airplane model from the 1900-1910.
This is a very rare early 20th-Century flying model Aéroplane "Ad Astra", created circa 1910. The boxwood framework is covered with doped fabric, the upper surface of the mainplane stencilled AD ASTRA, the two paddle-blade propellers secured to aluminium hubs with axis and rubber band driving hooks, the braced framework with tension wires and assembly sockets, the main undercarriage metal wheels with braced metal stub-axles and interconnected main axle, the tail fin post incorporating the tail wheel. This is an exceptional survivor of the pioneer period of aviation modelling, this model originally sold for 35f 50c in 1910. Illustrated in both L'Aéronatique and Le Petit Aéroplane these fragile models gave enormous pleasure to children of the period; few survive of the hundreds built and sold.

Measures: 22 h × 39½ w × 44 d inches (56 × 100 × 112 cm).
Inscriptions: Faint inscription to top of wing 'AD ASTRA'.

Condition: The overall condition of this AD-ASTRA plane model is great. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage and all parts are secured in the settings. This plane was carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity.
