A charming and rare late 19th century tabletop, salesman sample chest, likely French though possibly Italian in origin crafted with elegant bombe lines and miniature precision. The piece appears to have begun life as an earlier small chest and was later repainted in a striking orientalist red and gold palette, giving it a dramatic and decorative presence.
The top features a marble slab with a finely carved tiny perimeter groove, adding both function and refinement. Each drawer is fitted with beautiful bronze pulls, unusually well cast for a sample size piece, which speaks to the quality of the original workshop.
