Large Handmade Replica Bristol F.2B Fighter Model Airplane, circa 1930

About the Item

About This is an unique, handmade exact replica model airplane of the British Bristol F.2B Fighter. The model features wooden propeller, wooden tail skid and wooden struts. The engine is metal and the tires are rubber and metal. The cockpit features a raffia, wood, and metal seat and dials, pumps and a small plaque. The gun turret is metal and wood and swivels and has a wooden seat. This model has the same numerical signature as the real bi-plane. Creator Lars Van der Linde, The Netherlands. Date of Manufacture circa 1930s. Materials and techniques wood, steel, metal, rubber, raffia, early plastic. Condition good. Wear consistent with age and use. Some structural damage to the lower wing, upper wing and vertical rudder. The upper wing is separating on one side which causes the flaps on the other side to pull up. Minor chip on the propeller. One of the strut wires is disconnected. Damage on the bottom. Dimensions: H 15 in., W 74 in., D 50 in. History The Bristol F.2B Fighter was a British two-seat biplane fighter and reconnaissance aircraft of the First World War developed by Frank Barnwell at the Bristol Aeroplane Company. It is often simply called the Bristol Fighter, other popular names include the "Brisfit" or "Biff". When production was switched to the F.2B it became the subject of 'contract manufacture' across the aircraft industry with the first 150 or so fitted with either the Falcon 1 or Falcon II engine. The remainder received the Falcon III engine which meant they could achieve a top speed of around 123 mph which meant it could reach 10,000 feet about 3 minutes faster. The F.2B featured a fully covered lower wing center section and downward sloped longerons in front of the cockpit to improve the pilot’s view when landing.

This is a large delicate tin model made around the same time the real Tin Goose was flying. The wingspan is an impressive 40 inches. The wheels are rubber and the 4 part windshield is glass. I'm surprised the model survived in such nice and complete condition for about 90 years. We had a custom display stand made for it that brings it to another level. Between 1926 and 1933 some 200 Trimotors were built in Ford's own factory.
