This antique model is a miniature of the real one, manufactured to be installed during the British Industrial Revolution. Masterfully crafted with beautiful details and great materials, such; bronze, iron and steel. The model is mount in a customized mahogany wood base from the same period, for display. A fine lacquer decorated carved boxwood netsuke of a Noh dancer in a Hannya role, unsigned, Meiji period, late 19th century, Japan.
The boxwood netsuke finely carved as a kneeling Noh dancer dressed in striking geometric patterned robes. The actor holds an opened war fan behind their back in one hand, a Shinto wand slung over the shoulder in the other.
The war fan, tessen, decorated in red lacquer with a golden rising sun at the center. Tessen were sturdy fans used by samurai as protective devices, and sometimes as weapons.
The wand, called an onusa, is a traditional Shinto ritual implement comprised of folded paper streamers, shide, attached to a wooden wand, often used in purification rituals. Here, the shide are crafted from silver maki-e, with the handle of the natural boxwood.

I mean, have you ever? This rare travelling salesman sample miniature bar is in very good condition and is labeled Brunswick Balke-Collender Co. in clear and vibrant lettering. Not only known for its billiard tables and sporting goods, this Midwest based company built bars for two decades starting from the 1880s as saloons were growing in popularity. Features include a stainless steel top, nickel foot rail (remember men stood at the bars at that time- there were no stools), a green glass liquor bottle inside and a metal pump handle that works but not tested with liquid.
A salesman sample is a smaller version of a specific product and were commonly used in the 19th and 20th centuries to show important details of larger pieces. These small, exact duplicates were sent to sales representatives to take pre-orders from retailers, trade shows, and wholesale accounts since the larger life sized models were impossible to cart around.
