About the Item

Unique and perfectly handcrafted early 19th Century cherrywood wall cabinet with multiple hand-Cut dovetail drawers. This stunning cabinet of drawers is another one of our recent great finds. The details in this miniature cabinet show the incredible skill of its maker and the look and feel of this antique is simply marvelous. This antique cherrywood wall cabinet is one of those pieces you can immediately feel was made with patience, skill, and genuine pride. The front alone tells a story: the warm cherry veneer has been carefully bookmatched to create a lively, flame-like pattern. That kind of work isn’t done in a hurry, it’s done by someone with an eye for beauty. But the true charm reveals itself when you open the door. Inside is a miniature world of tiny drawers, compartments, and hidden corners (it is reminiscent of an 18th-century traveler’s curiosity cabinet). Each drawer is built with dovetail joints, a traditional technique that used to be done entirely by hand. Every joint had to fit perfectly: sawing, adjusting, fitting again, sanding, refining. It represents hours of meticulous craftsmanship. You don’t make something like this unless you are truly dedicated to your trade. Beyond its beauty, the cabinet is surprisingly practical. Hanging on the wall, it creates an elegant space for all the little things that usually wander around the house: jewelry, keepsakes, keys, notes, collectibles. With every item getting its own tiny drawer, life suddenly feels more organized, and more meaningful. And maybe that’s what makes this piece so special: it doesn’t just store objects, it protects stories. It’s a small tribute to the artisans of the past, while also bringing warmth, character, and a touch of history into any home. To have found this antique cabinet in this excellent condition more than made our day. No matter where you decide to use this cabinet for and no matter where you will have it on display, its design and quality will never go unnoticed. We believe this is one of those pieces that the next custodian will never fall out of love with and he or she will be enjoying it for life. This beautiful and decorative antique is great value for money. Especially when taken into account that perfect packing and worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 5 business days are complimentary. Unique Liberty Co Marked Great Arts Crafts Cabinet Attr. to Leonard Wyburd
By Leonard Wyburd
Located in Lisse, NL
Stunning Arts and Crafts cupboard by one of the greatest. We are certain that this wonderful handcrafted, stained oak cabinet was designed by Leonard Francis Wyburd (1865-1958). We are certain, because of several style elements that are typical for his designs for Liberty & Co in the late 19th century. We have no pictures in books or other evidence, but the pieces from his hand that can be found on the internet reveal style elements that are very similar and they were used by no one else. The design of this incredibly artistic piece shows both the influences of Medieval and Rural Britain. It were these early and amazing pieces of furniture from the Liberty Studio (headed by Wyburd) that made people across the continent speak of the 'Stile Liberty'. Designers like Wyburd and pieces of furniture like this amazing cabinet, influenced and shaped the entire development of the Jugendstil and Art Nouveau in Europe. That too makes this rare piece important for collectors and possibly for museums around the world. This cupboard is a work of art and it is an absolute joy to look at. It is all made of solid and stained oak and apart from the stunning and impressive overal design with the overhanging top with supporting beams, there are some key style elements that make this cabinet really stand out. First of all, there is the ever so true saying which is embossed in copper in beautiful Arts and Crafts letters which reads 'WELCOME IS THE BEST CHEER'. Secondly, there are the rare leather panels in the doors which come with (faded) images in slight reliëf. The one on the left is of a man in a hat and tights and he is playing a mandolin. The leather artwork...
