About the Item

Decorate a living room or music salon with this exquisite 18th-century pedal harp. Crafted in France circa 1780, this Louis XVI single-action harp features 36 replaced strings over a gilt foliate faux rosewood soundboard richly adorned with hand-painted chinoiserie motifs depicting courtly figures and exotic scenes. The elegant fluted column is embellished with carved floral and acanthus leaf motifs at the neck, while the scalloped plinth base is mounted with seven iron pedals surrounded by acanthus carving. This exceptional piece of craftsmanship showcases the refinement and artistry of late 18th-century French musical instruments, combining both sculptural and decorative appeal. The harp retains its warm walnut patina and intricate painted detail, and though likely requiring professional restoration to be playable, it remains a magnificent decorative statement. Condition: Very good cosmetic condition commensurate with age and use. Strings replaced; functional restoration recommended. Measures: 35" W x 23" D x 65.5" H.
