About the Item

A fine quality and rare music box made by Ami Rivenc of Geneva, Switzerland in c. 1880, featuring the beautiful combination of 9 engraved bells and an 8-day French clock inside a serpentine case. The musical movement features 9 engraved bells and plays a selection of 8 mainly operatic tunes as detailed on the original tunesheet. The comb has had a number of teeth professionally replaced in the past to a very high standard as the sound of the music is very good. The clock is connected to the musical movements and plays one tune every hour if desired. The music can also be played independently at any time. The clock is made by Japy Freres of Paris. This is all housed within a gorgeous burr walnut serpentine-shaped case with tulipwood inlay. A very rare and beautiful music box.
