About the Item
Conductor's baton from the Victorian period.
This is a very interesting and elusive antique director's baton created in Devonshire England during the Victorian period, back in 1890. The luxurious baton is crafted in ebonized wood with parts crafted in solid .925/.999 sterling silver with floriated incised engravings. This baton was presented as a memento gift to Mr. A . G. Chorn, in November 2 1893. The baton is presented in the original fitted leather case.
The Devonshire Square Church
The Devonshire Square Baptist Church was located on the corner of Stoke Newington Road and Walford Road in London. The church originally stood in Bishopsgate before moving to Stoke Newington in 1872. The church was later demolished for a housing development, but the former church hall is now Stoke Newington Baptist Church This refers to two different churches: one that was located in Bishopsgate and later moved to Stoke Newington, and another that was founded in Stoke Newington. The original church in Bishopsgate, founded in 1638, was demolished and its proceeds used to build the church in Stoke Newington. The Stoke Newington church, which stood at the corner of Stoke Newington Road and Walford Road, was damaged during World War II, later rebuilt, and eventually demolished to make way for a housing development. The former church hall is now used by Stoke Newington Baptist Church.
