About the Item

EMT 948 broadcast turntable, designed 1979, manufactured by EMT-Franz (Germany). Superb turntable, fully functioning and in excellent original unrestored condition. Certainly one of the best available. Originally designed as a professional, studio and radio station turntable, this is now considered amongst audiophiles to be one of the finest vintage turntables available. This example was supplied new to the BBC in London. It was the radio 1 reserve turntable, so has had very low use, hence the excellent condition. It would have only been taken out of the store cupboard if the main daily-use turntables failed – which was very unlikely. Serial number: 58502 Mains power details: 100-120V / 220-240V, 50/60Hz (will work worldwide) Plugs and cables: The sale will include mains power cable and two (long) audio cables with XLR (turntable) plugs to RCA (amplifier/preamplifier) plugs Dimensions (approx.): Complete turntable: depth 64.5 cm; width 56.5 cm; height 85 cm; weight 54.5 kg Turntable (without base): depth 47.5 cm; width 46 cm; height 24.5 cm; weight 26.5 kg Base (without turntable): depth 64.5 cm; width 56.5 cm; height 77 cm; weight 28 kg Condition: Cosmetic: The turntable chassis itself is in very good original condition. The perspex of the lid has some light scratches. The aluminium of the lid has a deeper scratch and a few imperfections. The base has a scratch to the front, and some general signs of wear. Overall the impression is really good. Technical: Everything seems to be working as it should. It has only had occasional use since leaving the BBC and it should be safe to assume that at the BBC it would have had impeccable service. Please note that we have not had this serviced or carried out any technical work. Any service work prior to regular use will be left to the discretion of the buyer, although we are happy to discuss and advise.
