About the Item
German late Renaissance style, 1896, Julius Pfaffe upright piano for sale with a walnut case and burr walnut panels. Cabinet features a front openwork panel of turned spindles that acts as a sound box. Pilasters are dual barley twists with Corinthian capitals, carved with acanthus. The ornate, brass candlesticks feature cherubs heads and scrolling foliage. Entire cabinet covered with ornate carvings of anthemions, shells, acanthus, strapwork, foliage and flowers in high relief. Piano has a mock roll top piano fall and piano cheek carved with strapwork, foliage, flowers and shells. Piano has twelve barley twist legs. Cabinet arcading features carved, openwork C-scrolls in high relief with a central foliar flourish. Piano is unique and was exhibited in the German Industrial and Art Fair in Berlin 1896.
