About the Item

This fine antique harp dates from the second half of the 19th century and was made in France by Pleyel, Wolff, Lyon and Cie. The renowned Parisian firm manufactured musical instruments including pianos, harpsichords and harps, made from the finest of materials and often very finely decorated. This harp is one such piece and it is finely ornamented with gilt bronze mounts. Another such example is housed in the Met Museum in New York, USA. The harp is missing a few strings but it could be restored and serviced to full working order. Alternatively it could be used as a decorative furnishing in a stately room adding a sense of history and grandeur.

French neoclassical style lyre-form gilt bronze clock French, 19th century Measures: Height 50cm, width 19cm, depth 13cm This wonderful mantel clock, crafted entirely from gilt bronze, is a magnificent example of the Louis XVI style. The clock is designed about the motif of the lyre—a popular form for Louis XVI style clocks. The clock features a stepped plinth-form base, raised on four bun feet. The base supports the clock case itself, which is wrought to resemble a lyre: the dial is set into the body of the lyre, while the twin lyre arms spring from the shoulders of the case. The arms are joined above by a garland held by scrolled swan’s head finials, between which is situated an Apollo sunburst mask. The gilt bronze surrounding the dial is richly moulded with scrolled forms and grasping acanthus leaves. Large French neoclassical style gilt bronze mounted bed French, late 19th century Measures: Height 143cm, width 147cm, depth 225cm This impressive bed is crafted in the neoclassical style from wood, gilt bronze, and red velvet. The bed features a large, shaped headboard, which is centred with a panel of red floral velvet, with the wooden structure of the headboard mounted with a host of gilt bronze mounts including rosettes and pomegranate finials. The footboard of the bed is similarly wrought and adorned, with the columnar sides set with gilt bronze floral garlands and the wooden surfaces veneered in a manner that reveals the grain of the wood.
