About the Item

A rare and unusual Edwardian cased cut glass prism rest with music association and believed to be a violin bow rest dating from the early 20th century. The rest is contained within a fitted long rectangular carded sleeve box with a textured leather finish and slides open to reveal a mock up musical score printed on the inner box. The three-sided prism has facet cut ball ends and is similar in shape to a knife rest. There are no makers marks however a quality item which has been well made with attention to detail even to having two inset gilded dots to the outer case to ensure it is correctly aligned when closing. A true mystery and interesting object. Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market. In good condition with wear associated with age and use.
