About the Item

Antique small brass Pelorus, signed Boyce-Meyer Pelorus Bronxonville N.Y., made in the late of the XIX century. It has a sight system with a compass card with eight winds and goniometric circle. The pelorus is mounted on a wood plank. Very good condition. Board cm 15x11 - inches 5,8x4,3, pelorus diameter cm 10 - inches 3,9, total height cm 17 - inches 6,85. It is a graphometer in a round crown mounted on a universal joint and it used to determinate the position of a ship: tracing two points on coast you can find two direction lines; where these lines join themselves there is the position of the ship. The term pelorus is derived from the name of Hannibal’s pilot, who assisted him in getting his troops across Europe and who kept him in touch with Carthage by sea. Shipping is insured by Lloyd's London; our gift box is free (look at the last picture).
