About the Item

Circa 1920-40 teak brass pedestal binnacle, English. An exceptionally fine example by Kelvin, Bottomley Baird, Ltd, formed in 1913. With oil lanterns (missing from housings) the ship master could guide through the roughest seas day night. Maker's label plaque: Kelvin, Bottomley Baird, Ltd. Patt. 1960Z3 Binnacle No. 1286K/5K Glasgow London. Level with British Royal Navy insignia. Tilling Stevens Ltd Royal Navy Compass. Chart capsule. The massive base allowed 12 bolts to secure it to the deck. Sold as decoration, although the compass is exact. 52.25" x 25" x 23".
