About the Item
Very interesting set of shells collected by an amateur between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The shells are classified by size and age either in small cardboard boxes or in glass tubes closed with corks. Labels give indications on the places of collection, sometimes the name of the person who collected the specimen for the collector and mentions of course the scientific name of the shell. The set is stored in a large red cardboard tray box from Deyrolle, a world-renowned boutique located rue du Bac in Paris. The Deyrolle house, founded at the beginning of the 19th century, specializes in the sale of articles intended for the collection of natural history, hunting equipment and taxidermy. This set, ideal for a cabinet of coriosity, is part of an important collection of several hundred boxes gathered over several decades.
