About the Item
Marine chronometer manufactured by Sewill, housed in a rosewood cubic case with brass edges and threads, measuring 18x18x19 cm. It has two lids: the first is tall and has a consultation glass that allows the clock to swing freely inside; the second is lower and made entirely of wood and has a brass polygonal shield in the center. On the sides are removable handles for carrying.
The mechanism is contained in a watertight brass cylinder, suspended from the case by gimbals, so that the chronometer remains in a horizontal position despite the ship's movements. The dial shows the hours in Roman numerals, with a large seconds subdial occupying the entire lower hemicycle and, at XII o'clock, a 56-hour power reserve indicator.
The case lacks the locking key. The mechanical part appears to be functional, although when fully charged it has a difficulty in starting.
