Arguably one of the best dental cabinets ever made, with so many unique features (and forgive the pun) cutting edge technology of the late 19th century. This cabinet was patented in 1899 and made of solid quarter sawn oak throughout, with carved accents above the beveled shaped mirror and carved & pierced brackets to the base with turned ribbed column supports.
The cabinet has a removable travel drawer case for making house calls, to the top of the case is a brass carrying handle and a brass plaque with the manufacturers name and "Patent applied for", making this one of the earliest manufactured of this model. A wonderful example of an early auto caddy by George Bussey. This is a rare find indeed as very few of these bags have survived, and they are difficult to obtain. The caddie has a boxwood carry handle and the main body of the caddie is made of mahogany. The boxwood handle is attached to the oak legs via metal rods and a brass mechanism. With this clever design the legs will open out automatically when the lower end is placed on the ground, they will then fold back in when lifted up. The canvas & leather bag for golf balls and the half pencil bag to the bottom of the stand are the original bags (flap is a replacement). The caddie stand is stamped with Bussey's name on the brass mechanism, and on both legs. There is a brass embossed trade label "Geo. The foot pedal is pushed up and down to power this dental drill. It is also known as a ‘treadle drill’. The drill removed areas of tooth decay. These can become infected and painful if untreated. The treadle drill was invented in 1871 by American dentist James Beall Morrison (1829-1917). He also designed dental chairs. His drill was popular with dentists throughout Europe and America. It is an example of the first mechanically powered drill. These sped up dental treatments
