This refined French Napoleon III–style crucifix is crafted in richly gilt bronze, displaying a magnificent glow and a beautifully aged patina. The figure of Christ is rendered with remarkable anatomical detail, set against a radiant sunburst and mounted on an ornate shaft entwined by a finely modelled serpent.
The piece stands on an elegant marble base, adding both weight and refinement. Overall in good condition, with only a few small chips on the edge of the marble base, consistent with age and use. A striking devotional object as well as an impressive decorative artwork, it embodies the opulence and symbolism characteristic of mid-19th-century French craftsmanship.
