About the Item

A collection of 11 framed and glazed engravings taken from the New Book Of Martyrs By Henry Southwell The 11 engravings show authentic and genuine historical account of the many dreadful "persecutions" against the church of christ, in all parts of the world. Each engraving is originally mounted on a blood red backing, these have gradually faded over time from different levels of exposer to the sun, added a wonderful decorative aesthetic. Areas of foxing and discolouration to the engravings, small folds and tares. The engravings themselves are likely to be second or third publications from the early to min 19th century. And have been sympathetically mounted in antique style ebonised bullnose frames 26cm in width 37.5cm in height 1.5cm in depth.
