About the Item

Ghau is a small prayer box/bag worn as pendant by Buddhists as portable shrines which can be pray by prayer during their travel. This Ghau prayer bag (travel Buddha shrine) made from Leather and decorated in repoussé with the cintamani, or jewel of immortality, a wrathful demon, and the eight auspicious signs, including the wheel, the lotus, etc. These intricate brass symbols surround a central displaying a small brass Buddhist deity held within the shrine all wrapped in a hand made leather bag. It was used as traveling shrine and carried on one's person traveling away from home to protect him. Size: 7in H x 5in W x 1in D Origin: Lhasa, Tibet Circa: 1950's Material: Leather, Brass Condition: Original condition, hand made, normal age wear.
