About the Item
This is an absolutely outstanding and extremely expressive sculpture of Crucified Jesus Christ in carved polychrome wood, on the background of a 16th century Silk Florentine fine fabric which represents and symbolises Jesus Christ’s Shroud, artistically designed and mounted on the antique linen and presented in the Glas case, originated from Italy, Florence. Shroud is linked to a legend of a cloth that was wrapped around the body of Jesus Christ after he died.
The quality of details is outstanding, specification of the Christ's face and tensed body, drops of blood on the corpus and meticulously carved linen skirt and its wrinkles show extraordinarily of this masterpiece. The inwardly tilted abdomen indicates Jesus' last breath and the cruel death on the cross.
The carved sculpture is very artistically displayed on an original 16th century Florentine Material on the background of antique linen. The silk and cotton Italian material/ fragment ( Shroud) is very rare, fine and has a vibrant red color with the gold threads. The dimensions of the Christ’s sculpture itself are: hight 44 cm, width 29 cm and depth 5 cm.
A truly deeply touching, emotional and meaningful sculpture which has been displayed in a unique and very atmospheric way.

The verso covered in an old paper printed backing with metal hook hardware at top for wall hanging.
