About the Item
This rare antique sterling silver judaical Yad (literally translated from Hebrew as “hand”) or Torah pointer was found in Vienna and survived among other historical religious items (see our listings ). It has a spiral design on the bottom and on the top a royal crown. In the Center there is a Star of David which has a light blue gemstone in it.
The Torah pointer is used by Torah reader to follow the reading, that’s why it has a pointing index finger on the tip which helps to follow the text easily.

This is an extremely rare and absolutely magnificent filigrane made 18th century silver spice tower. It has been crafted in Germany and hallmarked in two places with number 12. The German and Austrian hallmark in the 18th century, which was called Lot/ Loth and was used to indicate proportion of precious metal content in any metal object.
The base of the tower is square and has an intricate ornamented leaf design, the silver ball connects the base and the main part of the tower. In the middle there is a
small movable door which opens to the outside and has an engraved Hebrew letter Tav in an old font. It’s the last letter of the Hebrew Alphabet and translates as “truth”.
It symbolises truth, perfection, and completion. The tower has six gemstones on it, four red and two dark green. The design remains filigrane and fragile from the bottom to the top on all sides and at the tip of the tower there is a flag in an arrow shape.

This exceptional antique 19th century Russian silver Torah pointer/yad has a knopped tapering cylindrical form.
The bulbous knops are each plain and unembellished.
The plain tapering handpiece is embellished with applied interlacing designs to the upper portion.
The shaft of this silver Torah pointer has a stranded twist design, to an undulating circular collar style knop.
This lower knop terminates with an impressive hand, with its index finger pointed.
The hallmarks struck to the handpiece of this exceptional silver Torah pointer include:

City Mark: Moscow, Russia
Maker's mark: ФВ (untraced)
Such original Russian examples are becoming increasingly difficult to locate; due to their formation they do not stand the test of time.
