About the Item
This exceptional antique Jewish Torah pointer (Yad) is crafted in solid sterling silver and is dated 1877, the date engraved directly on the pointer itself- an important and rare feature that firmly anchors the piece in the late 19th century.
The Yad is richly symbolic and finely detailed. At the top stands a lion, emblematic of the Lion of Judah, representing strength, guardianship, and Jewish continuity. Below the finial, the shaft is beautifully decorated with a Menorah and a Star of David, two of the most central symbols in Jewish tradition. A small gemstone accent set near the upper section adds a subtle yet elegant highlight, enhancing the ceremonial character of the piece. The pointer terminates in the traditional hand-shaped tip, delicately formed for reading from the Torah scroll.
The Torah pointer is accompanied by an elegant Art Deco silver-plated presentation box, dating to the early 20th century. The box features finely chased floral decoration on the exterior and opens to reveal a velvet-lined interior, specifically fitted to cradle the Yad. The contrast between the 19th-century ritual object and the later Art Deco box creates a visually striking and highly collectible ensemble. Box dimensions: 23 × 9 × 5 cm
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a 19th-century sterling silver Torah pointer, complete with an attractive period presentation box. Ideal for collectors of antique Judaica, museums, or those seeking a historically significant ceremonial object with strong symbolic presence and display appeal.
