This striking Art Deco copper menorah, crafted in Austria in 1925, is a masterful fusion of modernist aesthetics and Jewish tradition. The menorah’s backplate features a bold, geometric stepped design, reminiscent of the architectural style of the era, leading up to a hand-cut Star of David at its center. The symmetrical, angular silhouette embodies the streamlined elegance and machine-inspired precision characteristic of Art Deco design, while still maintaining the warmth of traditional hand craftsmanship.
The menorah is constructed from hand-cut copper, giving it an organic yet industrial feel, enhanced by the naturally aged patina. The eight oil-cup holders are arranged in a straight row along the base, each featuring concentric, tiered rings, adding depth and texture to the otherwise minimalistic structure. The shamash, slightly protruding forward, serves as the focal point, subtly breaking the linear symmetry and emphasizing its ritual function. The two elegantly curved supports at the base not only provide stability but also introduce a softer, almost sculptural element that contrasts with the angularity of the stepped upper portion.
