Here I have to offer a fine antique classic early 20th century framed wall decoration with a beautiful Monastery Work inside. A wonderful decorative item, in very nice as is condition.
This is a truly fine antique old piece. Great Item in your home. As seen there are imperfections to the brass on the top, also at little color loose to the little accessories and flowers. This is old-age and gives the piece in total a great antique look. These are often displayed with wax Jesus figures called "Fatschenkind".
A Fatschenkind, also known as Fatschenkindl is a representation in wax of the Baby Jesus or Jesus Child. The term comes from the latin word for diaper. This is a miniature of a devotional image, an infant wound with ribbons and other tiny delicate objects. These figures are mainly distributed in Southern Germany and Austria as examples of wax work called “ceroplastics”.
The Fatschenkind is tucked into silk cloth, or lace with ruffles and can placed in a small framed wooden box with a glass pane or dome to avoid the dust. The Infant Jesus is cradled with colored paper, or embroidered silk, stones and pearls. No two are the same! Unique!
These boxes were made in monasteries, but also by private individuals, usually women.
