About the Item
A traditional Tibetan Buddhist ritual trumpet, Kangling is a type of trumpet or horn used in Tibetan Buddhist ceremonies. While traditionally made from a human tibia or femur (thigh bone), modern versions, like the one pictured, are often crafted from Tibetan white bronze, and features decorative elements.
It is primarily used in Chöd rituals, a powerful Tibetan Buddhist practice aimed at cutting through ego and attachments. It is also employed in funerals performed by a chöpa and for invoking or announcing the presence of wrathful deities.
Symbolism: In Tantric Chöd practice, playing the Kangling symbolizes fearlessness and compassion, used to summon hungry spirits and demons to alleviate their suffering. It also represents the transformation of ignorance into wisdom and is believed to aid in meditation by helping practitioners cut through the ego.
Usage: The Kangling produces a high, piercing sound and is typically played in conjunction with other ritual instruments like the damaru drum and bell during ceremonies and chanting.
This trumpet can be displayed as a wall decor or even be used as a table top item for your sacred space or the living room.
