About the Item
A paper print depicting the genealogy of Jesus, his family tree, with the charm of a time machine reconstructs the genealogy of Christ's ancestors, as per the Gospel according to Matthew and the Gospel according to Luke. It is commemorated by the Catholic Church on December 24. Our family tree is close to the Gospel of Luke, which goes back from Jesus to Adam. The number of generations is a multiple of seven, a number of high symbolic value and an indication of a complex related exegetical fabric. The subject is the source of complex and extremely in-depth studies. The print makes the tree grow on Adam's tomb with the phrase: 'Among all, there is a noble tree: no forest produces such a leaf, such a flower or such a shoot'. The tree culminates with the Calvary of Christ the son of God flanked by Mary and Joseph. Above is the cross, with the symbols of the Passion: the dice of his robe, the ladder for the crucifixion, the spear of the side and the sponge of vinegar, the veil of Veronica, the chains, the hammer and the pincers. Above we find the rooster, symbol of both the denial of the apostle Peter and of the Resurrection. The fruitwood frame is original as is the glass. On the back it bears the stamp, partly illegible, of the framer: Mario in Rivoli, Turin, Italy early 19th century.
