About the Item

A German Wood and Brass Torah Pointer. This Torah Pointer is made of wood and brass and painted black, unlike most Torah pointers which were made in Germany during the early 20th century. The reason this Torah pointer was made in such a dark fashion is because its intended use was for one day of the year - Tisha Ba'av which is the ninth day of the Hebrew month Av. On this day the ancient temple was destroyed and it became a day of mourning for Jewish people around the world. Pointer has a bulbous tapering handle affixed with a shaped bell-formed piece of brass which is fitted with a suspension ring and loop. The handle tapers and forms a sort of columned head to which the top of the brass pointer is affixed. Top of the pointer is almost shaped like a bullet with a cuffed hand protruding and has a bent pointing finger.
