About the Item
Rare and beautifully handcrafted, finest quality and meaningful church censer.
This possibly unique church incense burner was handcrafted around the turn of the century which is why the bonze and brass now has such a beautiful patina. On top of the Gothic trefoil-like rings is one of the oldest Christograms, the Chi-Rho. It consists of the Greek letters chi and rho, the first two letters of the Greek word for Christ. Just below that is a stylized bronze dove symbolizing the Holy Spirit as well as being a general symbol for peace, purity, and new beginnings. On the side and hanging from a beautiful arm is the original incense burner and placed on a small, but again top quality made plateau is the small incense boat (for keeping incense in). Although this church relic has a Gothic feel to it, in a more subtle way it is designed in the Arts
Crafts style. A skilled metal worker and artisan around the year 1900 must have spent a substantial amount of time designing and hand-crafting this Christian incense burner and the result of his work can now be enjoyed by you and by generations after you. This rare, meaningful and decorative antique is in very good condition. It is a great piece for home decoration, but we would not be surprised if it would, again, be used in a house of worship somewhere on our beautiful planet, because this religious antique lifts your spirit every time you look at or use it.
