Large Icon of Our Lady of Kazan, Patron Saint of Russia, 1940s
According to tradition, the original icon was discovered in 1579 in Kazan by a little girl, after the Virgin Mary appeared to her in a dream, telling her where to find it among the ruins of a burned-out house.
It is also known as "Lady of the Hearth" and is traditionally given to newlyweds as a wish for protection for the family.
Metal and enamel, good condition.
