Magical Tibet Antique Nine Eye Dzi Bead and Necklace for Protection Prosperity

About the Item

A fine old Tibetan or Central Asian nine eye agate Dzi Bead, Qing dynasty or earlier. This Classic barrel shaped bead is biconically drilled for suspension in a necklace or bracelet. Our naturally white banded and tapered dark agate bead dates to the Qing dynasty or earlier as evidenced by the significant surface patina from appropriate centuries old age (photos). Our Dzi bead has a pattern of 9 white "heavenly eyes". Dzi beads are considered one of the most sought after types of old and ancient beads. The middle part of this bead is thicker than the tapered ends which gives them a graceful curve. An unobstructed hole runs through the center of this lovely example. Authentic Dzi of Significant Age: Ancient dzi beads are handmade, hand abraded and hand polished using Primitive tools of the time: bamboo, stone, water and stone dust. Notice the considerable and original surface "naga skin" patina on this example- evidence of considerable wear and good age. Nage skin Dzi bead surfaces exhibit tiny circular weathering marks that resemble scales (see photo). . Another positive characteristic of authentic ancient dzi is the surface which is usually "smooth and waxy" , resulting from wear over a long period of time. Dzi beads were considered magical in ancient and present times. They were sacred implements and emblems of Tibetan and other Asian cultures and are believed to hold magical properties bringing prosperity and protection to the owner. They are also thought to hold medicinal propertie as some examples may show surface abrasions - also good signs of authenticity- where small amounts of the stone was extracted and later ground into powder for local medicines. Precious Dzi beads were traded across the Asian continent. Dimensions: Our bead is 1.87 inches in length and .75 inches diameter; We will include a 18 inch complimentary necklace cord so that it may be worn immediately. Dzi may be worn horizontally in a necklace or vertically as a "drop" fashion pendant.
