We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning circa 1800 hand carved in lime wood model of Saint Anthony of Padua A very nicely carved highly collectable piece with traces of old paint. The look on the face is so serene, I love it, this piece is hand carved from all angles and has a brilliant patina that can only be achieved through honest age In terms of restoration I have done nothing to it, the condition is perfect for the period Dimensions: Height 42.5cm Width 16cm Depth 12cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point Saint Anthony of Padua (Portuguese: Santo António de Pádua), born Fernando Martins de Bulhões (15 August 1195 – 13 June 1231) also known as Saint Anthony of Lisbon (Portuguese: Santo António de Lisboa) was a Portuguese Catholic priest and friar of the Franciscan Order. He was born and raised by a wealthy family in Lisbon, Portugal, and died in Padua, Italy. Noted by his contemporaries for his powerful preaching, expert knowledge of scripture, and undying love and devotion to the poor and the sick, he was one of the most quickly canonized saints in church history. He was proclaimed a Doctor of the Church on 16 January 1946. He is also the patron saint of lost things. This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses.
