About the Item

Rare double-sided religious diptych – Saint Nicholas of Tolentino Virgin and Child – Oil on copper, 17th century, silver mount A precious and rare 17th-century work, painted in oil on a thin copper plate on both sides, depicting two major figures of the Christian tradition, in a miniature format (7 x 6 cm) ideal for private devotion. Obverse: Saint Nicholas of Tolentino, recognizable by his black robe adorned with golden stars, holding a cross and a dish with a bird – classic attributes of the Augustinian wonderworking saint, famous for his visions and miracles. Versus: Virgin and Child, richly dressed, wearing a halo, painted in a Byzantine style with oriental accents. Careful detail, gentle expressions, and blessing gestures. The whole is mounted in a delicate silver frame with an original hanging ring. The condition is good, with patina and wear consistent with its age.
