About the Item

A rare triple container for Holy Oils: the Oil of the Catechumens ("Oleum Catechumenorum" or "Oleum Sanctorum"), the Oil of the Sick ("Oleum Infirmorum") and the Holy Chrism ("Sacrum Chrisma"). Unscrewable container, made of white metal with golden crosses, inside we find the three small containers for the various types of oils: "Ol", "OS" and "SC" well engraved by hand on each cap and on each relevant container. Three different Holy Oils are used in Catholic ceremonies: Oleum Infirmorum (= Oil of the Sick, made only with olive oil), Oleum Catechumenorum (= Oil of the Catechumens, also known as Exorcism Oil, made only with olive oil), and the "Sanctum chrisma" (Chrism, based on olive oil and balm. Oil of the Catechumens (“OS”) is the oil used in some traditional Christian churches during baptism; Chrism ("SC") also called sacred anointing oil, is a consecrated oil essential to the Catholic sacrament of Confirmation/Chrismation and is used prominently in the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Orders. Oleum Infirmorum ("Ol"), which is pure olive oil, is used for the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick. Italy, late 19th century.
