"Russian Orthodox Chalice And Paten – Early 20th Century" Antique Russian Orthodox Chalice and Paten – Early 20th Century An authentic Russian Orthodox liturgical chalice with matching paten, dating from the early 20th century (pre-1917). The set is crafted from silver-plated metal (likely copper or brass core) and features finely engraved iconography and inscriptions in Old Church Slavonic. The chalice (height 28.5 cm) is richly decorated with engraved images of Christ Pantocrator, the Mother of God, and the Orthodox cross, along with floral ornaments. The upper rim bears the inscription “Христова Кровь” (“The Blood of Christ”), referring to its Eucharistic function. Additional engraved saints are depicted on the base. The accompanying paten (diameter 15.5 cm) shows the image of the Mother of God “Platytera” with the Christ Child, surrounded by the inscription “Достойно есть” (“It is truly meet [to bless Thee]”), taken from the well-known Orthodox hymn. Origin Use: Such chalice and paten sets were used in Orthodox liturgy during the Divine Liturgy (Eucharist). Their style and inscriptions are characteristic of Russian Orthodox church workshops from the early 1900s. Condition: Good antique condition with original patina, light wear consistent with age and liturgical use. No modern polishing or restoration.
