Guatemala, 19th Century Polychrome Wooden Cross This 19th-century Guatemalan cross is finely carved from wood and finished with a dark polychrome ground, richly embellished with painted and gilt floral and vine motifs. The decoration winds gracefully along the shaft and arms, reflecting the strong influence of Spanish Colonial devotional art combined with local craftsmanship.
